How to Design Framing for a Picture

We do the designing for you but here is the basic formula: Always design the frame and mat to compliment your picture. Consider the style of the print or painting i.e. formal, rustic, modern, traditional, etc. as well as the color and style of your room. Remember the framing and matting are around the picture, so the artwork (not your furniture) is your first consideration when choosing a style of moulding.

Look at the colors in the painting and select mat colors that will allow the picture to be the focal point. Almost never use the brightest color to be the top mat as this can overpower the artwork itself. Often neutral colors are your best bet. Use brighter colors underneath as long as they don’t distract your eye from the picture. This allows the finished framing style of your picture to coordinate nicely with the room . Done!

Mark McCoy Exhibit Continues Through November 30

Braving the maze of downed trees, power lines and general mayhem that was Bucks County in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy, Mark McCoy greeted guests and patrons at Simons Fine Art Gallery for the Saturday opening of his one man show “Light and Shadow”. The Hilltown painter spent the afternoon sharing his views, techniques, and inspiration with friends, collectors, and fellow artists who attended the event to view Mark’s newest works in oil. The month long exhibit is part of the continuing “Featured Artist” events held at the location in downtown Dublin.  “Light and Shadow”, is a collection that showcases McCoy’s regionally recognized landscapes, focusing on the rich artistic heritage begun by the Pennsylvania Impressionists. Having studied under artists such as George Thompson, Peter Fiore and Robert Beck, Mark continues to develop his own style which has been recognized and consistently awarded in several prominent area exhibits. His handling of light, combined with his strong, spontaneous brushwork results in images that reflect such notable artists Harry Leith-Ross and Arthur Meltzer. Simons Fine Art Gallery is pleased to be highlighting the artwork of local artists, and is excited to be part of the movement to support local business. “Light and Shadow” runs through November 30, 2012.
